Wear on the brake drum can be checked by removing the dust cover. If the wear recess at the edge of the brake drum has almost been reached or it can no longer be clearly seen, the hub and drum assembly should be removed, and the brake drum replaced. En una empresa hoy desaparecida, fabricabamos remolques y semirremolques, trabajábamos con las marcas de ejes Mercedes, Saf, BPW y ROR, yo me encargaba del tema ejes, por tanto cada vez que había un cambio en ellos , yo los desmontaba por completo para ver sus características. También el tema de suspensión, tanto mecánica como neumática.

"Never overpack a bearing", they say. But is it true? Does that old adage apply here?
Yes, if you overpack a bearing the excess will go into the hub cavity, which if that is overfilled too the grease will overheat inside the hub as it’s churning about and turn into a liquid, losing its lubricating properties. The liquid grease can then come past the hub seals and onto the braking surfaces.

Excellent piece of equipment. I have been using these for many years and have no problems with control of the tractor DAF XF or Tiger tautliner trailer. New trailer three years ago and at 240,000km on UK roads tyres vary in depth from 8mm to 12m left at present. They do exactly what the video says and any company would be foolish not to take advantage of tyre and fuel savings.
Love the internal thread no chance of the drum sliding off and catching it!
Recommend removing wheels from hub to avoid wheels stuck on. Poor tyre fitters.
yes, and it saves weight too, esp. if the next step is to remove the bearings outer race, using a hydraulic press!!; we are not all as strong as Hercules!!! (taking the wheel off also gives more grip on the brake hub, so you don't cock them on the way out, damaging the axle seals!).
What is that parts name that is used together with a hammer, or maybe i should say the tools name.
What that fits the snap rings on? If so no idea lol I use copper hammer and my fingers careful tho lol hurts when you catch them.
@@mjb1859 No not really im looking for the name of the part or tool he uses in the beginning to unscrew the metal "cap". He uses a metal tool that fits around the cap and then uses a hammer to turn it counterclockwise.

We do, have had them for years. Mostly used on tag, pusher axles on tow and dump trucks. Higher end trailers use them too.

It's a nice system when works. But when locking system failes.. It's pain in the ass reverse if tires won't lock straight. And tight places have to know upfront, can you drive straigt before start reversing.
This makes complete sense But lemme throw out a monkey wrench into it For starters in a case of an accident or swing does it have sway Seeing that it's fully mechanical could it be upfitted with a air ram to potentially prevent sway or to help accommodate a tighter turning circle
